Celebrating the Life of Pat Boyle: A Legend of the Ski Industry
We take time to remember Pat Boyle, a man whose passion for skiing and the ski industry touched countless lives and helped shape the industry we love.
Pat's journey in the ski industry began at Fortress Mountain in the mid-70s. It wasn't just a love for the mountain he found there, but also the love of his life, and his future wife, Kim. Together, they embarked on an adventure that would solidify Pat's legacy in the ski industry and bless them with their two daughters, Katie (Katherine) and Lizzie (Elizabeth).
The late 70s saw them head west to Kelowna BC and Big White, where Pat's abilities and resourcefulness became legendary. His daily car troubles had caught the attention of the maintenance crew who helped him push-start his car each day so he could drive home. They quickly recognized his talent and adopted him as their own. This twist of fate sparked a career shift into millwright apprenticeship, and soon Pat wasn't just enjoying the slopes, he was helping maintain them. From lift maintenance to managing the mountain at Apex Resort, Pat's expertise grew with every challenge he tackled.
In 1988, fate intervened once more. Pat's talent caught the eye of Poma America while he helped build the new gondola at Whistler Mountain. This pivotal moment launched him into a role with Poma that would see him contribute to countless more lift installations across Western Canada. And now, years later, Pat's legacy is forever etched onto these mountains that he loved. But his impact goes beyond the physical structures.
For better than 35 years, Pat led the crew of Leitner Poma Canada's western division. He wasn't just a manager, he was the go-to guy for everything – sales, installation, service, and parts. Always available, his positive attitude and unwavering support fostered a sense of trust and admiration that transcended company lines. Colleagues and competitors alike respected Pat's dedication and the way he championed his team.
Pat's influence extended beyond his work. He was a valued mentor who tirelessly advocated for increased training and recognition for ski industry personnel. His steady approach, moral compass, and passion for excellence inspired many and continues to shape the industry today.
While we mourn his passing, we celebrate the incredible life Pat led. He leaves behind many who loved him and a legacy of dedication, innovation, and unwavering support for the industry he loved…. so let us raise a glass, not in sorrow, but in gratitude for a man who made a world of difference.
“The lifts we ride and the slopes we ski will forever hold the memory of Pat Boyle… a legend we will never forget.”
A celebration of life will take place at Big White Ski Resort on Thursday, August 22nd at 2 pm. Please RSVP by August 10th, to deb@inter-mtn.com - More details will follow for attendees.
