POMA came to Colorado in the early 1950's under the name of Pomalift, Inc., and has maintained a continuous presence in the United States for almost 50 years. From that start, the word "Pomalift" became generic for platter type surface lifts.
Early POMA chairlifts were installed at Squaw Valley, California for the 1960 Winter Olympics. POMA also supplied lifts for the Olympic Winter Games at Sarajevo, Yugoslavia in 1984; at Albertville, France in 1992 and at Lillehammer, Norway in 1994.
In 1981 Poma of America was established with a factory and offices in Grand Junction, Colorado, in order to have a stronger manufacturing, sales and service base in North America. Grand Junction – which is located in Western Colorado near the Utah border — was selected because its geographic location enables POMA to give first-rate service to the important ski area markets all across North America. The qualified labor force of 75 employees and the mild climate make Grand Junction an appropriate home for Poma of America. From 1984 to 1989 our detachables mechanisms were designed and manufactured in France. Since 1989 all Leitner-Poma detachables have been designed and manufactured in Grand Junction.
Leitner-Poma of America Inc. has three sales and service offices in addition to those at its headquarters in Colorado. The Eastern United States is served by Leitner-Poma of America East, a sales office located in Stockbridge, Vermont. Leitner-Poma Canada in Barrie, Ontario and Leitner-Poma Canada West in Kelowna, British Columbia, serve the Canadian market.
Because our objective is to provide the finest lift systems and service to our customers, our engineering department in Colorado collaborates with the engineers at Pomagalski S.A in Voreppe.
